Committees

Decision-making and representation of the Leibniz ScienceCampus (LSC) involve three bodies: Board of Directors, Steering Committee and Scientific Advisory Board.

The LSC is led by the Board of Directors (BoD) in which all participating institutions are represented. The BoD is responsible for the overall direction and the quality management of the LSC, based on the decisions of the Steering Committee. The BoD appoints two spokespersons affiliated with the two principal investigators, who lead the BoD and represent the LSC externally. The LSC Management acts under the responsibility of the Spokespersons.

The Steering Committee (SC), composed of the two spokespersons of the BoD and the representatives of each research area respectively, ensures the cooperation between the participating institutions and the research areas within the scope and mission of the LSC. In doing so, it decides upon all collaborative activities of the LSC and LSC employment, and approves the operating and capital budgets. The SC also exercises review and approval of proposed research and approval concerning the overall direction of the LSC. The SC meets at least four times per year. The SC appoints two Spokespersons who lead and represent the SC externally.

The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), composed of four to six internationally renowned scholars a-pointed by the BoD meeting once per year, will advise the LSC on all matters of research, research dissemination and quality management.

Cross-institutional ad hoc commission

Within the framework of EEGA, in October 2022, 4 partners

  • the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe, Leipzig (GWZO),
  • the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies, Halle (IAMO),
  • the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography, Leipzig (IfL)
  • and the Centre for Eastern European and International Studies, Berlin (ZOiS)

have agreed to support each other in reviewing aspects of research ethics in research projects and publications. They have installed a cross-institutional ad hoc commission that acts in those cases when the intra-institutional instances are not sufficient. This may be the case, if internal procedures have the appearance of bias or a conflict of interests, or if external advice and review is explicitly required. In this way, the partners want to meet the demand for a high quality ethic review, which meets all the quality standards of established evaluation procedures, but also draws on rich experience in empirical social research.

In case of questions about the work of (and participation in) the ad hoc commission, please do not hesitate to contact the institution that is assuming the administrative leadership of the commission for the first two years (2022 – 2024): Lisa-Marie Janns (Assistant to the Director at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography; l_janns@leibniz-ifl.de).
