Research project: Bringing the global back home: Developing “socialist entrepreneurialism” and (re)making the workplace in a global perspective (1961-2008)
Dr. Anna Calori specializes in labour, social and economic history of the former Yugoslav region. Her academic interests include Global history, history of neoliberalism, history of socialist economic thought, business history, oral history, as well as identity, ethnicity, politics and memory studies in (post)socialist countries.
She has recently completed her PhD in contemporary History at the University of Exeter, as part of the Leverhulme Trust-funded project “1989 after 1989 – Rethinking the Fall of State Socialism in Global Perspective”. She has been awarded visiting fellowships at the Centre for Area Studies (University of Leipzig), where she worked within the framework of the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1199: “Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition”. Previously, she has been an OeAD Ernst Mach Research Fellow at the Centre for Southeast European Studies at the University of Graz. She has also worked in the NGO-sector in Kosovo, Italy and the United Kingdom, and more recently at the International Labour Organisation in Geneva.
She has recently published the volume Globalization Projects East and South: Spaces of Economic Interaction During the Cold War (DeGruyter, 2019), co-edited with Anne Hartmetz, Bence Kokcsev, James Mark and Jan Zofka, and has two forthcoming articles with Nationalities and Business History.
As part of her current stay as an EEGA Fellow at the Global and European Studies Institute, University of Leipzig, she will be developing her post-doctoral project in view of an application to more extended funding. The project seeks to analyse Yugoslavia’s engagement in the global economy from the perspective of large industrial workplaces and their workers engaged in economic development and technical cooperation in the Global South.
