Stay at EEGA: three weeks in September / October 2017

Eleonora Narvselius is an Associate Professor at Centre for Language and Literature at Lund University. She holds PhD in ethnology from Kyiv University (Ukraine) and PhD in Ethnic Studies and Nationalism from Linköping University (Sweden).

Her recent research evolves on the intersection of Memory Studies, Heritage Studies, Urban Studies and studies of ethnicity and nationalism. She has recently participated in the international projects Memory of Vanished Population Groups and Societies in Today’s East- and Central European Urban Environments. Memory Treatment and Urban Planning in Lviv, Chernivci, Chisinau and Wrocław (funded by the Swedish research foundation Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, project co-ordinator Dr. Bo Larsson, 2011-2014) and the COST Action IS1203 In Search of Transnational Memory. Among her recent publications are monographs Ukrainian Intelligentsia in Post-Soviet L’viv: Narratives, Identity and Power. Lexington Books, 2012 and Tragic Past, Agreeable Heritage: Post-Soviet Intellectual Discussions on the Polish Legacy in Western Ukraine, Carl Beck Papers 2015, no. 2403, and the edited volume Traitors, Collaborators and Deserters in Contemporary European Politics of Memory. Formulas of Betrayal (co-edited with Gelinada Grinchenko, forthcoming in December 2017 at Palgrave Macmillan).

During her research stay at EEGA she began with then preparation of a project application for ERC Consolidator Grant and continue work on the introductory chapter of a planned book Cultural Diversity of East-Central European Borderlands: Cityscapes, Memories, People. This edited volume summarizes main findings of the concluded international project Memory of Vanished Population Groups and Societies in Today’s East-Central European Urban Environments.
